SIEMENS TO MAKE GCC ROADS SAFER WITH STATE OF THE ART ROAD SAFETY TECHNOLOGY

A new award-winning speed enforcement system that achieves speed compliance of over 99 per cent is being launched in the UAE tomorrow at the Gulf Traffic Exhibition.

SafeZone is a new technology designed, developed and manufactured by Siemens UK, and uses average speed monitoring of all vehicles travelling between designated camera stations every 75 metres of the road.

The average speed monitoring stops drivers from accelerating and decelerating dangerously between cameras, and are particularly useful in urban areas that have significant amounts of pedestrian traffic, such as schools and residential locations.

Siemens is using the Gulf Traffic exhibition, taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre until 14 December, as a launch pad to entice GCC governments to replace fixed speed cameras with the more accurate average monitoring systems.

Mark Bonnor-Moris, Business Development Manager of Siemens UK said: “SafeZone has already been deployed at a number of sites in the UK, achieving major road safety benefits – the average speeds of vehicles have been significantly reduced and accident rates improved.

“The 75 metre baseline between camera outposts makes it possible for a pair of SafeZone cameras to directly replace a fixed speed camera, creating a networked zone rather than a single speed trap. This can be used to bracket the entrance to a school, for instance.

“The combination of community-based branding and advanced technology makes it possible for customers to extend the benefits of motorway average speed enforcement to all types of road networks in rural, city or residential locations.�

Gulf Traffic organisers Informa Exhibitions have confirmed an exhibitor line-up of more than 150 of the world’s leading traffic and transport infrastructure suppliers at the exhibition, where Siemens will be demonstrating their SafeZone camera, back-office and example road signs.

Running alongside Gulf Traffic Exhibition is the two-day Gulf Traffic Conference, which will address the challenges in road safety and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in the Gulf region.

In support of the UN's Decade of Action for Road Safety, the conference features 17 international and regional road safety and ITS experts, including Colonel Jamal Al Bannai, Assistant Director of General Traffic Department, Dubai Police; and Commander Adrian Hanstock from the Metropolitan Police in London, UK.

The exhibition and conference is supported by Dubai Police and is held under the patronage of His Excellency Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police.
